There will be ocean salmon fishing this Labor Day weekend when the area from Leadbetter Point to Cape Falcon reopens on Sunday, Sept. 2 to Monday, Sept. 3.
The daily bag limit will be two salmon per day -- two hatchery coho, two Chinook, or one of each. Minimum sizes are 24-inches for Chinook and 16-inches for coho.
This area of the coast earlier closed to salmon fishing on Aug. 12, but ocean recreational and commercial troll salmon fishery representatives from Washington and Oregon worked together to transfer enough coho salmon from the commercial troll fishery to the recreational fishery to allow the season to reopen for the last two possible days within the season structure.
Anglers are reminded that if they retain any Chinook salmon from the ocean, they are not allowed to continue angling for any other species once they have returned to the Columbia River with Chinook on board. The lower Columbia River is currently closed to retention of Chinook salmon.
