The Madison below Quake Lake has fished very well during every overcast day. Nymphing has produced for every angler that has attempted it. When 1PM rolls around Baetis are emerging and fish are in feed mode. The good holes will have pods of rising fish in them. A nice upstream presentation will take many nice fish. Search the water for the smallest disturbance to find risers. The small size of the Baetis and the speed of the water make the rise forms very subtle. The upcoming weather will slow down Baetis fishing for a few days. Nymphing will be the most productive way of fishing during the sunny days. Streamer fishing will also be good, especially in the morning and evening when the brown trout are more active. If it gets warm enough there will be a few terrestrials active. Search casting with a hopper or beetle may produce.
