Clear skies combined with good kokanee fishing brought Shaver Lake back to life this past week. Dick Nichols, of Dick's Fishing charters said that after a few weeks of off fishing, the bite returned with limits of kokanee to 13 inches possible.
A few nice rainbows were also picked up this past week. Nichols said that he talked to long time kokanee fishermen Earl Taniguchi of Fowler, Carl House of Fresno and custom fishing pole maker Terry Walton of Pine Flat after a recent trip. They picked up three limits of mostly kokanee to 13 inches and a couple rainbows that went 18 and 19 inches. The trio was trolling in the island/Black Rock areas at about 35 feet deep on the down riggers and 20 feet deep on the side poles. Using hoochies and spinners behind blades provided the best target for the kokes.
Bank anglers are picking up a few fish in the dam , Point and Sierra marina areas. Power bait or crawlers are the go to bait from the bank.
